Remodeled Ranchhouse 2007. Crieve Hall. Remodel
This 1950's ranch home needed to express the
couple's modern lifestyle on a modest
construction budget. The remodeled plan gives
the couple a lot of "bang for the buck". One
open room replaces three cramped rooms and
accomodates cooking, dining and living.
Pitching the western red cedar ceiling to follow
the roofline while removing the central bearing
wall adds height and interest to the expanded
main space. Opening the exterior back wall
allows much needed access to the back yard
with a new ipe deck.
The couple performed much of the work and
used several do-it-yourself systems such as
Ikea cabinetry and site-glazed windows to
further reduce labor costs.
