Blazer Farmhouse Completed 2009. Near Leiper's Fork
New Construction.
Rejecting the "mcmansion" trend, this young
family sought a timeless sense of warmth
and dignity found in smaller, hand-crafted
homes. The multiple outbuilding pattern of
traditional farmhouses was the inspiration for
this wooded site. Simple gable-roofed structures
are clustered around an oversized stone chimney
fitted with timber framing. A wrap around porch
connects to a private master suite.
The home is crafted of high quality durable
materials and employs many energy efficient
strategies. For example, regular drywall is
almost never used as an interior finish whereas
all the wooden doors are reclaimed or hand-
made. The detached cabin is zoned separately
and typically needs conditioning only at night.
