Alaskan Addition

Arctic Entryway
Completed 1998. Anchorage. Addition.

This new arctic entry brings one alongside the
house, on a garden path that is protected from
snow and rain by the deep overhanging eaves.
Interior doors create an air-lock to further
protect the interior from blasts of arctic air. Hand joined timbers entirely frame the new front
facade of the home. The door is made of
redwood reclaimed from used wine casks. The
frame is made of Douglas fir reclaimed from a
19th century warehouse. The architect was the
builder as well as the timber framer for the
award winning project.
